DU School of Open Learning Gets 15,000+ Applications in Just 4 Days

Published On:

Delhi University’s School of Open Learning (SOL) has opened the 2025–26 admission cycle with a bang: more than 15,000 applicants signed up in just the first four days, underscoring the growing appetite for flexible, distance-learning options. SOL Director Prof. Payal Mago called the early surge “a heartening vote of confidence” in the school’s revamped, tech-driven approach to higher education.

Two-Step Application Timeline

  1. Phase 1 (now live): Students create an account at sol.du.ac.in and secure an interim seat by uploading basic details and documents.

  2. Phase 2 (opens 10 June): Applicants lock in (or change) their programme preferences once final Class 12 and undergraduate marks are available.

This staggered calendar lets students avoid last-minute scrambles while still updating choices after results are declared.

What You Can Study in 2025–26

Undergraduate portfolio (11 programmes):

  • BA General, BA Programme (Commerce), and BCom (Hons)

  • BA (Hons) tracks in Economics, Political Science, English, and Psychology

  • New-age management options: BBA (Financial Investment Analysis) and Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS)—courses introduced only two years ago to meet India’s demand for finance and analytics talent.

Postgraduate portfolio (8 programmes):
MBA, MCom, MA (Hindi, Sanskrit, History, Political Science), plus the one-year Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS).

NEP-Powered Dual Enrolment

For the first time, SOL students may simultaneously pursue one regular university programme and one distance-learning course. If a candidate later secures a full-time seat via CUET, they can either claim a near-full refund and exit SOL—or keep both courses if eligibility norms allow.

Tech Upgrade: Automatic DEB ID via Academic Bank of Credits

Every enrollee now receives a Distance Education Bureau (DEB) ID automatically through the national Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) platform, eliminating manual paperwork and making future credit transfers seamless.

Quick Registration Checklist

Did You Know?

  • SOL is the pioneer of distance education in India, tracing its roots to 1962 as Delhi University’s first correspondence-course wing.

  • It currently serves over 400,000 learners across India—nearly the size of a mid-sized city.

  • Environmentalist and Padma Bhushan awardee Sunita Narain—director of the Centre for Science and Environment—earned her degree through DU-SOL, illustrating how open learning can nurture globally recognized leaders.

With the combination of dual-degree flexibility, new industry-ready programmes such as BBA (FIA), and a fully digital admission workflow, DU-SOL is positioning itself as one of the most accessible—and ambitious—distance-learning hubs in the country.
