Delhi Govt Grants ₹417 Crore to Delhi University – In a bold move to strengthen the capital’s education system, the Delhi government has disbursed a Rs 417 crore grant-in-aid to 12 fully state-funded colleges under Delhi University, addressing long-standing financial hurdles and paving the way for enhanced educational infrastructure.
Among the colleges receiving support are Acharya Narendra Dev College, Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Bhagini Nivedita College, Bhaskaracharya College, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, among others.
During a recent press briefing, Education Minister Ashish Sood highlighted the urgency of the aid:
“Students from middle-income families rely on these institutions. The previous administration failed to provide timely grants. We ensured disbursement on April 1 to support their academic needs.”
A Technological Leap: 75 New Smart Schools and More
Beyond financial relief, the Delhi government is gearing up for a tech-driven transformation in public education. A dedicated Rs 100 crore budget has been earmarked to establish 75 CM Shri Schools, equipped with futuristic learning tools such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), and data science curriculum.
These schools will be designed to rival top-tier private institutions, ensuring equity in quality education. Notably, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Language Labs will also be launched in 100 schools, offering students access to global languages like English, French, and German.

Scholarships, Digital Tools, and Coaching: A 360° Student Support Model
Under the CM Digital Education Scheme, 1,200 university students have already received laptops to support their academic journey. More notably, the Delhi government has awarded scholarships to over 1,300 meritorious students, helping reduce the financial barriers to higher education.
These scholarships—administered by the Directorate of Higher Education—target students from economically weaker sections, enabling them to pursue degrees without worrying about tuition or essential expenses.
Further democratizing education, the state has launched free coaching initiatives for competitive entrance exams like JEE, NEET, and CUET, aiming to level the playing field for aspirants from underprivileged backgrounds.
“Education is not just an individual’s journey—it’s the foundation of our nation’s future,” said Sood. “Investing in our students is investing in India’s growth.”
What’s Next? AI Classrooms & Global Collaboration
To push boundaries further, the Delhi government is exploring partnerships with global ed-tech companies and universities abroad. Talks are underway to introduce real-time AI tutors, machine learning projects, and foreign exchange programs for top-performing students.
